J's Annual Holiday Funk= Currently in Recovery

Now that finals are over, (can I get a HALLELUJAH!?) I have focused my thoughts on getting myself back into a steady stream of positive energy and good mojo. Finals always bring me down and make me feel lonely and I just become down-right hard on myself. So, as always-I fall back on music to uplift me. One of my favorite things about music is when the beautiful shapes and colors of the music makes being lonely feel beautiful, even if it is just for a moment. Do you know that feeling? Lately I have felt it listening to Bon Iver's amazing album that came out earlier this year, and as always Norah Jones, we all know that it is impossible to not feel loved deep down inside with her warming vocals. Another song on repeat is Winter Song by Sarah Bareilles and Ingrid. But my all time favorite is River by Joni Mitchell. I grew up on Joni and she is amazing, this is one of my favorite winter songs.

I always find myself in a strange nostalgic funk around the holidays, I am not sure what I am missing but the smell of my christmas tree and the taste of creamy egg nog always helps to cure me.

I love the Holidays. There is a certain love and spirit in the air, I don't know if it is Bing Crosby's voice ringing through my head, or the twinkling lights that light up the city. Whatever it is I look forward to it every year.

Christmas is for sharing. It is no fun to celebrate by yourself. So round up all your friends, and family and laugh together until you can't breathe, eat good food, pray for snow around the dinner table and count your many blessings. Serve others and keep in touch with those who be feeling a little scrooge-like. And give them a hug.
