goodbyes

I am the worst at goodbyes. After being in a long distance relationship for over a year I got accustomed to it, but it never got easier, if anything it almost got harder. But from saying goodbye I have learned lot about enjoying the now. Taking in every moment.

Even still, its not the goodbyes that hurt, its the flashbacks that follow them.

“Never say goodbye, because goodbye means going away, and going away means forgetting.”

-Peter Pan

I've never experienced a long distance relationship, but I can't even imagine how hard it must be to barely see the person you love. Goodbyes and distant memories of the times before are really quite sad. :/

I hate goodbyes too. You describe it perfectly. Love you Joc!

I'm sorry. I hope things get easier soon.
I don't like saying goodbye on the phone or to anyone. I say "see you later" or "talk to you later".
As Regina Spektor said, "don't say goodbye like you are burying him. Cause the world is round, and he might return".
All my love, dear.

LOVE!

Ahh, goodbyes are the toughest; you are so right in that it is the memories that hurt most more than the actual goodbyes. But what's good is that it is the happy memories come to mind rather than the bad, and they are what we remember the most.

On another note... I would love to see a stage version of West Side Story! I'm sure it's as good as the movie, if not better! (And how I would love to be one of the dancers in it!)

Going to Europe for 7 weeks?!! Girl, I am SO jealous hahaha :) that's amazing! Please take some pictures for us ;), I hope you have the time of your life over there! And thanks for the good advice, it's a good point.. You don't need to rush through school, loading up on so many classes that you're busy all of the time. These years are meant to be enjoyed too. I thought about doing 6 classes next semester, but now I'm really glad I decided against it. Five is enough to keep me busy, but still allowing time for fun in there too.
Aw, I hate goodbyes too. I'm a lingerer, if I don't feel like saying goodbye I'll just stick around until I feel like I absolutely have to go, hahah. I love the Peter Pan quote too. Hope everything is going well over your way-- love you too!

Jocelyn, your comment was so sweet. I have missed you too! I hope things are going well for you. Goodbyes are always the hardest part, but you're right about living in the now. If we focus too much on what will happen when we say goodbye, we will forget to really cherish what we have at that moment.

Keep your head up :)

I hate goodbyes, almost to the point where I avoid them. Losing Poppy has been so difficult because of the finality of that goodbye that is just so crushing.
The way you word things is so perfect - I really don't even need to elaborate more because you so succinctly summed up every emotion associated with the whole process.
Love you, Joce!

P.S. On an unrelated note, I watched Teen Wolf on MTV (nothing else was on, don't judge!), and they played Young the Giant in the beginning -- thought of you!

My husband and I lived apart for six months (me in Ireland, him in France) it was so difficult. Goodbyes were the worst, and immediately after each, I would begin the countdown the next time we'd see each other... life became one big countdown.
